Among the Best Chichester Restaurants for Fresh and Savory Seafood

Our Chichester restaurant fits comfortably within this small New Hampshire town—a place many recognize to be steeped in tradition and history. Our Chichester restaurant is located not far from the hustle and bustle of Concord, the state capital, but is also nestled nicely within a quaint village setting.

Chichester, New Hampshire is one of those small, steadfast settlements that over time has served as a showcase for the fortitude and pride of New Hampshire. Slow growing and out of the way, Chichester represents the spirit of its state—hard working and self-sufficient. Granted for settlement in 1772, Chichester was given three years to build and settle 60 dwellings. It did so and found its final borders in 1782 when, due to a land dispute, its northern section was absorbed by the neighboring town of Pittsfield.

Chichester remained quite isolated until the 1700s when a road was established to Portsmouth and Concord. The small farming community continued to grow with the times as the Middlesex Canal and Suncook Valley Railroad were established in 1803 and 1869 respectively. With these connections, especially the railroad, mills and factories found their way into Chichester. Like many New England riverside towns, Chichester residents welcomed the industry and resulting business. Built wherever the water could power a wheel, the mills and factories produced shoes, carriages, sleighs, shingles and more.

As the turn of the century approached and transportation improved, residents began to leave Chichester. Whether for the flourishing cities or to follow the railroad west, Chichester’s population was quickly declining. In an effort to revitalizes people’s love for the city, Chichester began celebrating Old Home Day. The celebration still continues today with vendors and exhibits, fireworks, a parade, music and tractor pulls. It helps to remind current and past Chichester residents of the pride they have in their town. The historic event is sponsored in part by many Chichester restaurants and businesses—our Weathervane Seafood location is proud to be a part of this celebration and part of this community.

As a snapshot of simple New Hampshire life, Chichester is a great example of what is so great about the New England way of life. It is for this reason that we are proud to add fresh seafood to the Chichester restaurant scene. While it may be a drive from the Seacoast, the culture and taste of lobster and other New England staples solidifies Chichester as a destination worth visiting for seafood fare.

So, the next time you’re in the Concord area, consider checking out our Chichester restaurant. Stop in for some savory seafood like our fresh Maine lobster or hand battered haddock. We look forward to seeing you!
